About T&DMS

Lorraine Roberts - TDMS President 2025-27

President's Welcome

Welcome to the Torquay & District Medical Society.
It is a pleasure and great honour to be president for the next 2 years.
I was born in Torquay and progressed from Torquay Girls' Grammar School to Birmingham University Medical School.
I trained in the Torbay Hospital GP training scheme, being the second to join. I worked as a GP in Paignton for 30 years spending several as a GP trainer.
TDMS has a long history of inviting stimulating and interesting speakers including Surgeon Commander Rick Jolly who talked about his service in the Falklands War; Pete Goss who was awarded the Legion d'Honneur for saving a fellow sailor in the Southern Ocean; and Dr Michael Dixon who is King Charles's personal physician.

We have another fascinating and varied programme for the upcoming season for which full details can be found here.

As a Society of long standing, we welcome new members from associated medical professions.
I am particularly keen to encourage younger doctors to join the society bringing their enthusiasm and new ideas, and to promote the educational as well as the social aspects of our meetings.

Please join me to experience enjoyable company, a good meal and stimulating presentations.

Who We Are

The Torquay & District Medical Society was founded in 1842 to provide social and educational opportunities for members of the medical profession.

The Society has over 100 members from Hospital and General Practitioners, both current and retired. We welcome trainees and medical students.

We also offer affiliate membership for allied professions and from all branches of the medical world.

The Society aims to provide a regular social environment in which our members can meet with their peers for entertainment, educational and networking purposes.

Torbay & District Medical Society is a Registered Charity, number 246725

Our Activities

The Society organises regular dinners throughout the winter months - from October to April. Our dinners offer an ideal opportunity to meet colleagues in a relaxed and sociable environment.

Commencing with pre-dinner drinks in the bar, our dinners are rounded off with an entertaining, informative and enlightening talk from a guest speaker.

During the summer months, the Society has a less formal programme including regular participation in the Dartmouth Medical Regatta.
