Richard Paisey - T&DMS President 2022/3

President's Welcome

Welcome to the Torquay & District Medical Society.
It is a pleasure and great honour to be president for the next year.
I came to Torbay as a consultant in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology in 1986 and have attended many interesting TDMS talks chaired by inspiring colleagues and friends from general practice and the hospital.
Guest speakers have included Garet Fitzgerald, former President of the Irish Republic, Chris Mullin MP who overturned the wrongful conviction of the Birmingham 6, the coroner for the Iranian embassy siege and Kate Adie the intrepid reporter.

We have another stimulating programme for this year's Winter Series, including a Medical Entrepreneur, the longest surviving kidney transplant recipient and a local historian and geographer to tell us more about the spectacular natural environment of the Dart Estuary.

Please join me to experience enjoyable company, a good meal and stimulating presentations.

Who We Are

The Torquay & District Medical Society was founded in 1842 to provide social and educational opportunities for members of the medical profession.

The Society has over 500 members from Hospital and General Practitioners, both current and retired. We welcome trainees and medical students.

We also offer affiliate membership for allied professions and from all branches of the medical world.

The Society aims to provide a regular social environment in which our members can meet with their peers for entertainment, educational and networking purposes.

Torbay & District Medical Society is a Registered Charity, number 246725

Our Activities

The Society organises regular dinners throughout the winter months - from October to April. Our dinners offer an ideal opportunity to meet colleagues in a relaxed and sociable environment.

Commencing with pre-dinner drinks in the bar, our dinners are rounded off with an entertaining, informative and enlightening talk from a guest speaker.

During the summer months, the Society has a less formal programme including regular participation in the Dartmouth Medical Regatta.
